I’m Glen and I want to share my personal thoughts about how I manage my sister’s timing in outdoor and indoor. Like many kids these days, she’s drawn to screens like a magnet, which has led me to find some creative ways to balance her screen time with good old-fashioned outdoor fun. Here’s a glimpse into how I’ve managed to strike that balance and keep her active and engaged.
First off, I lead by example. I make a conscious effort to limit my own screen time and show enthusiasm for outdoor activities. This sets a positive tone and encourages her to follow suit.
We’ve also set some ground rules together. No screens before homework or chores are done, and we’ve agreed on a reasonable limit for screen time on weekends. These rules help create a routine and make sure she’s not glued to a screen all day.
I’ve found that making outdoor activities fun is key. Whether it’s a bike ride, a trip to the park, or just playing in the backyard, I try to make sure she’s enjoying herself so she’s less tempted by screens.
Of course, I understand the appeal of screens, so I don’t ban them completely. Instead, I limit her time on them and encourage her to find other activities to fill her time. This way, she learns to balance screen time with other activities.
I also try to encourage her creativity. When she’s engaged in creative activities like drawing or building, she’s less interested in screens. So, I make sure she has plenty of opportunities for these kinds of activities.
Lastly, I always offer her choices. Whether it’s indoor or outdoor activities, I want her to feel like she has some control over how she spends her time. This way, she’s more likely to choose activities that keep her active and engaged.
Balancing outdoor play and screen time for my sister has been a learning experience, but by setting boundaries, providing options, and leading by example, I’ve been able to help her develop a healthy relationship with technology while also encouraging her to enjoy the great outdoors.
